The Los Angeles Chargers reportedly blocked an interview request from the Chicago Bears for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

According to Fowler, the Bears wanted to interview him for the same position on their staff.

The Chargers interviewed Moore, who took over as offensive coordinator ahead of this season, for their head coach opening on Jan. 9. They are looking for a replacement for head coach Brandon Staley, who they fired in December.

Chicago is gearing up for a complete overhaul in the offensive department. The Bears fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy along with four offensive assistants following the conclusion of the season.

Now, it seems their search will have to involve someone other than Moore.

Moore is fairly new to the coaching world. After retiring from the NFL in 2018, he joined the Dallas Cowboys as a quarterbacks coach and took over as offensive coordinator in 2019. He remained in that position through the 2022 season, twice leading the NFL’s No. 1 offense. In his first year in charge of the Chargers’ attack, however, L.A. was merely 24th in yards.

If Moore is hired as the Chargers’ head coach, he will be the youngest head coach in the NFL at 35, following a movement around the league of teams moving to younger head coaches.
