LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is reportedly set to meet with the Washington Commanders amid the team’s links to North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.

During an appearance on SportsCenter on Friday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said that while Washington hasn’t revealed much about its draft plans, the team will host the Heisman Trophy winner for a top-30 visit.

“Washington’s done a very good job of keeping their plans under wraps,” Fowler said. “But I was told that Washington does plan to meet with Daniels at some point, one of those top-30 visits for players coming in to visit the team, that should happen at some point in the next week or so. The feeling strongly around the league is that he’s the No. 2 quarterback and that he would likely go second or third.”

The Commanders hold the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft and are expected to take a quarterback with that pick.

Daniels had impressive numbers in his final season at LSU, throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and picking up 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. It’s clear Daniels has all the makings of an NFL quarterback and undoubtedly will be one of the first quarterbacks off the board even if Washington doesn’t draft him.

But Maye makes a compelling argument to be the second pick as well. He is the No. 3 overall prospect and the No. 1 quarterback prospect according to Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department. The latest mock draft has him just behind Daniels, going No. 3 to the New England Patriots.

Last season, Maye had 3,608 passing yards and 24 touchdowns for the Tar Heels, also racking up 449 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

Maye already met with the Commanders ahead of his Pro Day at the end of March, so now Washington has a difficult decision to make in selecting what it hopes will be the next franchise quarterback.
