That made it the most watched telecast in history, which was a title previously owned by last year’s Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles (115.1 million). What’s more, a record 202.4 million viewers watched all or part of the game, which was 10 percent higher than last year’s total.

While the Super Bowl always draws a massive audience, there were plenty of factors in play this year.

Patrick Mahomes is the biggest star in the sport and further cemented his status as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history with his third Super Bowl title in five years. Speaking of stars, it surely didn’t hurt that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is dating music icon Taylor Swift, who was in attendance and featured multiple times on the broadcast.

The game was also a thriller, as Kansas City overcame an early 10-0 deficit and won 25-22 in overtime thanks to Mahomes’ game-winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman Jr.

Audiences were surely glued to the broadcast throughout the game with the outcome hanging in the balance until the final play.

The question now is whether Mahomes and Co. will be there next year as the NFL goes for another record-breaking broadcast.
