After New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner gave his thoughts on Sunday night’s Super Bowl 58, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward’s account clapped back in a since-deleted X post.

Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the 49ers, Gardner praised the Chiefs for their effort:

SAUCE GARDNER @iamSauceGardner

I told y’all. The 9ers might look better on paper but the Chiefs always find a way😂💯

That post didn’t go unnoticed, however.

“Boy yo ass ain’t never sniffed the playoffs,” the post on Ward’s account read, though it has since been deleted. “You watching from the couch. Worry bout the sorry ass JETS. Everybody got something to say about the team in the Super Bowl. Your opinion doesn’t need to be heard kid.”

The Jets haven’t reached the playoffs since 2010, long before Gardner was drafted in 2022. Ward’s post was likely a result of emotions running high after Sunday night’s loss, but there could be a new rivalry forming between Ward and Gardner.

In Sunday’s game, Ward had four tackles. A second-year 49er, he was facing his former team as he spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs. He left to join San Francisco in 2022 after a lofty payday, though that decision cost him a pair of Super Bowl rings.

With Gardner and the Jets on next season’s schedule, we’ll see if sparks fly between the newfound rivals.
